Bij het Waste Management Phoenix Open eerder dit jaar ontmoette Gary Woodland Amy Bockerstette, een 20-jarige Special Olympics golfster met het downsyndroom. Op de beroemde par-3 16de hole van TPC Scottsdale maakte Amy op prachtige en ontwapenende wijze een par. Het filmpje daarvan ging viral.

Woodland hield na die eerste ontmoeting contact met Amy en er ontstond een speciale band tussen de twee. Uiteraard zat Amy zondag voor de buis toen haar held op Pebble Beach het US Open won.

En na de persconferentie spraken Woodland en Amy elkaar ook nog even via FaceTime.
